May 7th, Saturday at 8 p.m. at 18 Rabbit Gallery in Fort Lauderdale: Poets and writers don glow sticks, Christmas lights, fishnets, and anything else that will illuminate their better natures. I’m reading with such talents as Brian Spears, Amy Letter, P. Scott Cunningham, Neil de la Flor, Mars Cheppield, Mary Sheffield, and Onajide Shabaka.

As part of the O, Miami Poetry Festival, I’m reading with poets extraordinaire Neil de la Flor and Maureen Seaton at Abe’s Penny Live, an exhibit - hosted by the Brooklyn-based publishing house – of photography, literature, postcards and mail-art, and on-site writing inspired by a fort filled with fresh pencils and paper. Doors open at 6 p.m. and reading begins at 7 p.m., at Art Seen Gallery/New World School of the Arts, 2215 NW 2cnd Avenue, Miami. For a map, click here.

Tropicalia: A reading and signing at Books and Books

I’m reading and signing my new book of poems at 7 p.m. , April 8, 2011, at Books & Books’ flagship store in Coral Gables. I remember when this independent and locally owned bookstore was a smidge of a beautiful shop, crammed with books and staff who loved everything about them. Since then, the main store has moved down the street to a roomier venue, with even more books shelved in glossy woods and a vine-covered courtyard, and the people who work there are still devoted to reading and bringing the printed word to South Florida. February 25, 2011 – A reading with fellow poet P. Scott Cunningham at Books and Books, Museum of Art-Fort Lauderdale, followed by indie singer-songwriter Ryan Alexander. For a rundown on the sudden disappearance (as in pouf ) of spoken word talent Ebone, as well as how Scott stole the show (that trickster), click here. Thanks to all who came out, listened, bought books, and hummed along to the sooth-and-drone of the Gregorian chants coming from the Vatican exhibit.
